Ms. McKinnon of Lakeland transitioned Monday, April 15, 2024. A visitation will be held Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. with the Celebration of Life to follow. The interment will follow the Celebration of Life at Lakeland Memorial Gardens - 2125 Bartow Road, Lakeland, Florida 33801. All services will be he held at Harmony Missionary Baptist Church - 1645 N. Webster Avenue, Lakeland, Florida 33805.
Margaret Laura Ann McKinnon, affectionately known as “Boo,” was born on August 7, 1971, in Lakeland, Florida to James and Laura McKinnon. Surrounded by family and friends, Laura Ann went home to be with the Lord on the afternoon of Monday, April 15, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Laura Ann attended the local area schools, graduating from Kathleen High School in 1989. After graduating from Tampa College with a degree in travel, Laura Ann began her career journey. Laura Ann was employed at Typhoon Lagoon and served as Youth Activities Director for both Carnival and Disney Cruise Lines. Laura Ann then began a 31-year tenure as a Travel Trade Reservationist with the Disney Company. Laura Ann was a lifelong member of Harmony Missionary Baptist Church, serving as a Nursery School Teacher for close to 30 years.
Laura Ann was an avid sports fan and was a season ticket holder for her beloved Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Laura Ann loved to travel, visiting family in other states and booking her Royal Caribbean Cruises well in advance. Laura Ann tirelessly volunteered her time and resources to help her family, even helping to raise her niece JaDaesha, as if she were own daughter. Laura Ann was a kind and loving person who touched many lives during her life’s journey. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Laura Ann leaves to cherish her memory her parents, James and Laura McKinnon, brothers: Sir Francis McKinnon, Sr. (Patricia), and Christopher McKinnon (Satoko), sisters: Dallas McKinnon, Teresa Richardson, God Sister, Constance Mitchell, Aunties: Fannie Greene, Doris Hodges, Betty Greene, and Peggy Earle (Landlin), and Uncle, Lavern McKinnon and a host of cherished nephews, nieces, cousins, co-workers and friends .
