1941 - 2024

Homer Lee Boatwright
1941 - 2024

Homer Boatwright was born in Lakeland, Fl on November 17, 1941. He attended Moorhead Elementary School and for his Jr and Sr years he attended Rochelle where he was a fantastic basketball and football player. He was also on the track team. His events were discus and shot put. He set a record in one and broke a record in the other; you can find his name with others on the U.C Johnson wall in front of Rochelle School for shot put and discus.

He attended college at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he played basketball. After college he played Center with the Harlem Magician. He also played Center with the Royal Crown basketball team of Lakeland which later became an AAU team. He also played semi-pro on the Florida Brahmas football team.

In 1960, he married his high school sweetheart Joyce Boatwright. After his mother in-law passed he helped raise his sister in-law Elaine. Homer & Joyce had 6 children. Homer had more children totaling 13 in all.

He was baptized in Jesus’ name at Refuge Church of Our Lord under the late Apostle Henry Ross Sr. He occasionally enjoyed attending 6am prayer service and Sunday services.

In 1965 he became a Lakeland police officer and served on the force for 15 years. He later became a supervisor at Publix Bakery Warehouse until he retired in 2001. He enjoyed renovating his home, working in his yard, and raising his chickens. He also loved quality time with his family.

On October 17, 2024, Homer entered eternal rest. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Gamiah and Ethel Boatwright, siblings: Ernest Lee, Major, Grace:, Charlie, Rosalee, Willie B, children: Bridget, Buffey, Daryl Jennings and Connie Williams.

He is survived by his former wife & best friend Joyce Boatwright and their children, Wayne Boatwright (Linda), Sandra Townsend (Thedor), Renea Richard, Monica Boatwright, Margot Boatwright (Diego), Leehomer Boatwright-Simmons, Homer Lee Boatwright Jr., Brendan Boatwright (Kimberly), Quinton Boatwright, siblings, Shirley Ann Pickney, Rosetta Hollaway, Jeanette Sconiers, Lottie May Graham, 26 grandchildren & 42 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
