A visitation will be held at Greater St. Paul Missionary Baptist Institutional Church - 1130 N. Webster Avenue, Lakeland, Florida 33805 on Saturday, November 2, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. with the Celebration of Life to follow. Interment will follow the Celebration of Life at Oak Hill Burial Park - 4620 US Highway 98 South, Lakeland, Florida 33812.

Gerald Ronald Rawls was born on January 18, 1942, in Lakeland, Florida, to LeRoy and Myrtle Rawls. The eldest of four children, Gerald grew up with a deep sense of family and service. A proud graduate of Rochelle High School, he was great a basketball player and given the name “Shake” because of his skills. He was also a talented horn player in the marching band. After high school, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. During his military career, he achieved the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Sharpshooter Badge, reflecting his dedication and skill. After completing his military service, Gerald pursued higher education at Bethune-Cookman University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree.

Upon returning to his hometown of Lakeland, Gerald built a successful career with Mosaic Phosphate, where he worked diligently until his retirement in 2007. Beyond his professional life, Gerald was deeply committed to his faith and community. A devoted member of Greater St. Paul M.B.I. Church, he faithfully served on the Deacon Board and took great joy in teaching new members’ classes. Known for his love of the Bible, Gerald found fulfillment in sharing the word of God with others.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Myrtle Rawls, and his son, Gerald Ronald II.

On Friday, October 25, 2024, Gerald transitioned from this life at Lakeland Regional Hospital. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his devoted wife of 19 years, Joyce Rawls; his daughter, Rhonda Camp (Kevin); bonus daughter: Angela Moses; his siblings, Judy Walden (Charles) Earl Rawls, and Phillip Rawls, grandchildren Keyshon and Kayla Camp; sisters-in-law: Patricia Coakley, Crystal Crockett (George), Jeanette Snead; brothers-in-law: Clarence Snead, Jr, Edward Snead and a host of extended family and friends.
